0 The Price is Right!

This weekend we got a great deal on onesies from T.J.Maxx. These Nike body suits come in a 5-pack that retails for $24.99. They were hanging individually on the rack with out any prices. I grabbed everyone I could find, 13 total, and headed to customer service hoping for the best. The young girl at customer service offered them to me for a dollar each. I nervously told her "I'll take them all".  Lina and I walked out the store feeling like we just stole something. 13 onesies for $13!!! GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!!

3 Evicton Notice (Chapter 1)

I'm happy to report on the status of my man cave exodus. The need to make room for the baby has added some warmth and signs of life to the mundane corner of our living room. That long plain wall and corner annoyed the hell out of me. I've never known how to furnish it much less give it some purpose until now. Kudos to the baby! More importantly Kudos to Lina. She has been really supportive in this process. Then again I knew what kind of women I was marrying. Now I have a comfortable corner to work on my graphics and music without impeding on the living room vibe. Our cat Lincoln also approves the update to the living room (see red arrow in above picture). Chapter 2 coming soon...

3 World Cup of Pregnancy

Just as the 2010 World Cup of Soccer premieres this month so has the kicking from our daughter. Sure the sonogram we saw earlier in the month was proof that we are parents, but there's nothing like feeling a kick to absolutely remove all doubt. It's very tangible now. Lina's new thing is to abruptly announce when the baby kicks mid-sentence similar to how "Dug" the talking dog from the movie "UP" abruptly announces when he spots a squirrel. It has become the nightly ritual for me to lay my hand on Lina's belly awaiting for our little goalie to kick. So far the kicks are very subtle, but you can feel them none the less.

0 Wilson the Grumpy Teddy Bear Spotted in Manhattan!

Wilson was spotted at Stand Burger by Union Square. Patrons say he had the Bacon & Egg Cheeseburger and the Banana Milkshake. He absolutely disliked the meal. He didn't tip the waitress and stole a handful of Stand branded matchbooks. Typical grumpy bear behavior.

1 Eviction Notice (Preface)

It's a bittersweet day for me (David) as today I officially begin to empty out my man cave. It was always understood when we moved into our 2 bedroom coop that the second bedroom would be reserved for family expansion. Luckily we have lots of space throughout our apartment to relocate my 2000+ vinyl records. Let the nesting process begin!

0 Baby Registry

I've noticed almost every time we tell people where we are registered two things are usually said:
  1. "I've never heard of that store..."
  2. "I can't find your registry..."
So let's clear the air. Lina and I are registered at Buy Buy Baby. Being that they do not have any stores on the west coast I think an explanation is in order. Buy Buy Baby is a baby superstore owned by Bed, Bath & Beyond. Think of it as Babies R' Us' competition. There are some great opportunities for savings as Buy Buy Baby accepts Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons (they must be current and follow the same exclusions in the fine print), they accept manufacturer coupons and also accept Babies R' Us coupons. Talk about going for the jugular!

We are also registered at Amazon Baby. It's basically Amazon.com. All you have to do is go to www.amazon.com/babyregistry and search for Lina Colon.

To make it easier I've included links below to both registries.

2 Baby's First Toy

Lina & I were at Kid Robot in SOHO the other day and really fell in love with this bear. I suggested the bear to Lina while in the back of my mind preparing for rejection (key to a happy marriage). To my surprise she approved for the same reasons I like the bear. Not your average teddy bear. His name is Wilson. He's a grumpy bear. Butterflies. Puppies. Freshly baked bread. Foofy girl stuff. There isn't much that Wilson doesn't dislike.

2 It's A Girl!

This is the baby at 20 weeks. Up until this point we had heard the weirdest ways on how to determine the sex of the baby. From the straightness of the line going down the middle of Lina's belly to analyzing how her belly was shaped. Everyone was wrong. When I (David) heard the doctor say "It's a girl" I immediately considered registering for a hand gun. It was my joke I told people for the rest of the week. I couldn't help but notice Lina glowing. It had been her wish to have a girl. I won't lie, I was anticipating having a boy so I can share my hobbies, interests & artistic views on life. Why I thought this could only be achieved with a boy? I dunno. So after the brain fart, I became excited that nothing has to change except the paint color on the wall.

0 First Baby Picture

Here is the first picture of the baby. She is 8 weeks old in this picture. The baby is about the size of a raspberry. I think she looks like a peanut. Don't you?

Lina wanted to surprise her mother, Aida Rosado, with the news of the baby on Mother's Day. So as a Mother's Day gift we purchased this cool frame from Destination Maternity. It's a matted frame with the words "Coming Soon" underneath where you insert the sonogram. Lina couldn't take the pressure of holding such big news so we caved in and gave her the gift a week before. Lina was 14 weeks prego at the time. Aida and Lina predictably shed a few tears of joy. I'm actually surprised we lasted that long. Boy, it felt good to finally let people know.

1 Tezja

"Tezja" is Albanian for Aunt (mother's sister). Anyone who knows us understands that we are Puerto Rican. I can barely speak spanish myself. So why am I giving you guys a lesson in Albanian language? In dedication. We are dedicating this first entry in our "Baby Blog" to Bia Ukperaj-Dellamorte. She is Lina's ex-coworker, current friend and future "Tezja" to our baby girl. Without her suggestion we would have missed out on documenting and sharing with you all the joys & quirky things on our journey as first-time parents.
